How consumers feel about data security and fraud

Whether they realize it or not, merchants are on the hook for keeping their customer’s transactional data secure. In this study 2,368 U.S. consumers were surveyed to learn how attitudes towards data security have shifted since the start of the pandemic, how this affects online retailers and what merchants can do to meet rising security demands.

  • 65% of consumers would abandon an online retailer after a single data breach.
  • 48% of consumers are more worried about data security now than before the pandemic.
  • 59% of consumers require a guarantee of personal data protection to consider purchasing from merchants.
